Project description
In recent years, Deutsche Post restructured and moved out of various locations, resulting in the sale of these properties. For the Palais an der Oper, this meant that the building could be put to a new use in the form of offices, apartments, restaurants and shops.
The planning goal was to carefully restore Bürklein's arches on the Hofgraben facade. The western facade towards Residenzstrasse was newly built based on Klenze's classicist template.
Above the base made of natural stone and ashlar, the facade rises in three segments atop a tall ground/mezzanine floor. The upper floors pick up on the axial arrangement of the ground floor, while the facade is structured by French windows. The two avant-corps at the corners remain intact.
The courtyard, through which the office and apartment floors can be accessed via separate foyers, is directly connected to the main entrance on Maximilianstrasse. The passage to the southern Hofgraben forms the link towards Alter Hof and Marianhof.
The ground and first floors accommodate restaurants and shops, while offices occupy the second to fourth floors. The two upper floors are reserved for apartments.
